Taking note of a dance community that often serves a niche audience, the Cartel creates dances that are VIBRANT, IMMERSIVE and often PARTICIPATORY.

Without sacrificing technical rigor or artistic ambition as a dance company, we endeavor to employ the social nature of dance, the charge of a party,
and the sharpness of a music video
to a fresh dance vocabulary that
any Joe can get down with.

In 2012, The Dance Cartel premiered what would become its signature dance event ONTHEFLOOR at Ace Hotel NY, designed to move audiences around an ever-shifting landscape of live dance performance. Since then, the Cartel has adapted this work to a radically broad range of environments, mostly not traditional dance venues. It has been presented at spaces as diverse as PS1/MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum, Terminal 5, Ace Hotel NY, 1 World Trade Center, Le Poisson Rouge, Oberon (ART – Cambridge), Philadelphia Museum of Art, Velocity Dance Center (Seattle, WA), Bootleg Theater (Los Angeles, CA), Space538 (Portland, ME), Red Hook Festival, Manderley Bar at the McKittrick Hotel, Museum of Art and Design, Ars Nova, Espaco Xisto (Salvador da Bahia, Brazil), & Riverside Park’s Summer on the Hudson (2012-2014).
